Prayer Bear

At St Edward’s, we believe that prayer is at the heart of our school and family life. To help children develop their prayer life at home, Class 1 and Class 2 have a special Prayer Bear who takes turns visiting children’s homes.

What is a Prayer Bear?

Our Prayer Bear is a soft, cuddly toy who comes home with your child for the weekend on a Friday. Inside the Prayer Bear bag, there is also a small prayer book with suggested prayers, reflections, and space for children and families to add their own prayers or drawings.

Why do we have a Prayer Bear?

  • To encourage children to see prayer as part of daily life, not just something they do at school.

  • To give families a chance to pray together, share their faith and create special moments at home.

  • To help children grow in confidence by leading prayers with others.

  • To strengthen the link between school, parish, and home.

What do families do with the Prayer Bear?

When your child brings Prayer Bear home, we invite you to:

  • Find a quiet time together (at bedtime, before dinner, or another special moment).

  • Say one or more of the prayers from the prayer book.

  • Add a drawing, photo, or short note into the book about your prayer time together.

  • Return the Prayer Bear to school the next Monday so it can continue its journey.

Celebrating our prayers together

When Prayer Bear comes back to school, the class teacher will share some of the children’s reflections during Prayer & Liturgy. This helps children see that their prayers at home are part of our wider school family’s prayer life.

Our hope

Through Prayer Bear, we hope children and families will grow closer to God, find comfort in prayer, and feel connected to the faith community of St Edward’s.
