Welcome

A Welcome Message from Mrs Snell

It is a privilege to be the headteacher at such a wonderful school, full of happy, well-behaved children, who I can see are a joy to teach. I am still enjoying my journey at St Edward’s Catholic Primary School and I look forward to sharing with you even more wonderful opportunities and developments from our school as the academic year progresses.

It is my aim that our pupils, who are at the heart of every decision we make, are happy, confident and are given opportunities to achieve both now and in the future. Our highly skilled, enthusiastic and all-round amazing staff are key to the school delivering this crucial aim for all our pupils. I want to develop a learning community where children respect each other and take responsibility for their own behaviour and progress, showing understanding and modelling for each other the values that are essential to developing a harmonious and cohesive learning community. This begins with our children in Reception and continues throughout our school, our children are taught and encouraged to make positive behaviour and learning choices that enable them to flourish.

We are proud to be a Catholic School reflecting Christian values in the way we interact with each other and within the community and all the while celebrating our diverse community and other faiths. Each person’s faith is of equal importance and at St Edward’s we will ensure that all our families feel welcome.

At St Edward’s Catholic Primary School, we will strive relentlessly to ensure that all our children enjoy a stimulating and diverse education.  We want them to be fully active in their learning and achieve to the very best of their ability. Whilst academic attainment is an important focus for our school and we aim for high standards in all we do, we also strive to create a learning environment where children experience enjoyment in their lessons.  Staff ensure that our children are excited by their learning opportunities, intrigued by vibrant and welcoming learning environments, both inside and outside that provide our children with inspiring and welcoming spaces where they have the freedom and support to develop. We have an extremely dedicated and supportive staff, who work hard to provide the best opportunities for all our children, creating a safe and happy environment, instilling confidence, resourcefulness and a willingness to learn. It gives the children a solid steppingstone to take responsibility for their future, and the confidence to go on and make important life decisions. We aim to provide the very best education and experiences to prepare them for their next steps in life.

We have an engaging curriculum that we constantly assess to ensure our children foster a passion for learning and curiosity that will help to develop high aspirations and a life-long love of learning. Our curriculum is carefully designed to allow a wealth of opportunities both in school and through enrichment activities beyond the school environment. Through our mission statement of ‘To love, to serve, to learn’ our aim is to nurture children’s individual talents and ensure that ALL children experience success and reach their full potential.

It is important to me that we foster positive relationships with our parents/carers, governors and the wider school community to ensure the best possible outcomes for all children and I look forward to when we can invite parents and carers into school to be a part of school community once again.

As a school, we are always looking for new ways to improve and grow. We all work together with a common goal, to ensure that our children are happy and successful in their primary years.

St Edward's Mission Statement

'To love, to serve and learn.'

We are a school family journeying together in God's love. We serve each other to achieve our best. We learn in fun and creative ways, respecting everyone's gifts.

Who are we?

Welcome, we are a small, family orientated school in Runcorn 'Old Town' and can trace our origins back to the 1840's when the school started in a room above the original St Edward's Church in Windmill Street.

This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school direct with any queries you may have. You can also find information on the School App, Facebook and Twitter.

If you would like a paper copy of the information on our school website, please speak to Mrs Dowling in the office who will provide this free of charge.

Equality at St Edward’s

St Edward’s Catholic Primary School welcomes its general duties under the 2010 Equality Act and the 2011 Equality Duty to:

• eliminate discrimination, harassment, and victimisation,

• advance equality of opportunity, and

• foster good relations.

St Edward’s is committed to equality. Therefore:

  • We do our best to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with respect.

  • We are aware of the Reasonable Adjustment duty for disabled pupils – designed to enhance access and participation to the level of non-disabled pupils and stop disabled children being placed at a disadvantage compared to their non-disabled peers.

  • We make sure the school is a safe, secure, and stimulating place for everyone.

  • We recognise that people have different needs, and we understand that treating people equally does not always involve treating them the same.

  • We recognise that for some pupils extra support is needed to help them to achieve and be successful.

  • We take seriously the need to consider the equality implications when we develop, adapt and review any policy or procedure and whenever we make significant decisions about the day-to-day life of the school. We do our best to make sure that people from different groups are consulted and involved in our decisions, for example, through talking with pupils, parents, and carers, and through our School Council.

  • The Headteacher ensures that all appointment panels give due regard to this policy so that no one is discriminated against when it comes to employment, promotion or training opportunities.
